If I Adjust To The Polyphasic Sleep Cycle, Can I Break The Pattern Sometimes?

For example: if i have to stay up more than 4 hours, and then be really tired, can i sleep more than 30 minutes that time? Will this really mess up my cycle? Or will it have minimum effect?

Once you are adjusted you can compensate for a missed nap by sleeping more before or after the missed nap. I would guess that sleeping for a full sleep cycle, i.e. 1.5 hours would be appropriate.
But the main part of your question is the first part. The “if” in your question is a big “IF”
    According to this article

“only about 2% … seem to be suited for the Uberman schedule”.
Which, I think, is an understatement and the real number is probably much less.
